A Classic, Undone
The Cropped Trench
Designers love to reinvent the classics, and I’ve fallen hard for this season’s take on the trench. The silhouette feels fresher—boxier through the shoulder, sharper at the waist, and easier to wear day to day. I still love a long, sweeping trench, but this one has an energy all its own. Inches off the hemline, shoulders squared just so, and suddenly what was once long and swishy is now cropped, boxy, and cheekier.
The thing I love about the cropped trench is that it doesn’t try too hard. It’s still the trench you know, still practical in a drizzle, still cut with that borrowed-from-the-boys sharpness. But shorter. Easier. Sportier. And somehow chicer than its floor-sweeping cousin. Prada is into it. Tuckernuck is into it. And I’ve already fallen for the versions from Frame and Cos—they feel like they belong in my wardrobe.
I’ve been styling mine with the simplest of pairings: a white tee and my favorite denim, a button down with my favorite trousers and even midi skirts. That’s the charm of this cut—it carries the weight of tradition but still leaves room to play.
xx,
Coco
